| As requested by family members (aka Mummy), here is my 2007 Christmas List. I don't think I'm that hard to shop for, but the fewer Kohl's sweaters I get, the better. Most of these items are rather random, simply things I'd never I'd actually spend money on myself, but would totally love to get as gifts:
black empire mini dress (fredflare.com)

Classy.
hot steps crocheted tights (fredflare.com)
I've always wanted a pair of textured tights, and I wear leggings more than I'd like due to lack of a better (though not necessarily warmer) substitute.
tennis racquet carrying case (fredflare.com)
I don't actually play tennis, but if I did, I would totally use this. I just wanted to post it, because it's so awesome.
russian dolls coin purse (fredflare.com)
 Colorful, cute, and practical.
InCase neoprene sleeve for 13" Mac Book
Otherwise, my laptop just swims around in my purse/totebag with all my other things, i.e. pens, keys, cell phone.
How I Met Your Mother, Season 2 DVD
One of my new favorite TV shows. The only CBS show I watch.
Mates of State - Team Boo CD
Possibly my second favorite band ever. Well, at least in my Top 5. | comments: Leave a comment |

| Senior year has turned out to be busier than I intended. I spend at least 4/7 days in lab, which kinda sucks. I've definitely decided that research is not the career for me. However, it looks like I'm going to have to take a year off before I apply to grad school, which kind of worries me. I mean, granted, most non-premed people I know are doing the same thing, but I still feel like a bum, since I can't get my act together to apply right now. I haven't even taken the GRE yet :(
This weekend seems pretty good, in terms of exams and papers. I've got a lab practical plus an exam coming up, but I don't expect either to be too difficult. Tomorrow I've the OK Go concert and then the football game to look forward to.

Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your blog along with these instructions. 5.Don’t you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest. 6. Tag five people.
Fargo Rock City by Chuck Klosterman:
I recall having a heated argument with a woman over what made for better sex music: White Zombie or Yanni. In my mind, "More Human Than Human" is very sexy; I actually think it sounds like sex. My female opponent strongly disagreed with that assertion, although I don't think she was so much advocating Yanni as she was attacking White Zombie.
Amusing...I couldn't even make up an excerpt that random. I don't think I even really know five people personally on LJ, but anyways: Trish, Sara, Andrea...? | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |

| So, while taking a break from all the paper writing / studying, I was looking at Urban Outfitters online, and came across this in their clearance section:
Rudolph the Butt-Nosed Reindeer! Isn't it the cutest ornament you've ever seen??? I only wish it came in a larger version, like a stuffed animal. | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |
| For the first time in like two months, I'm actually kind of bored. It's Friday evening, and the only homework I have this weekend is a reading response for German. And that's not even due til Tuesday. It feels so weird not to have any exams to study for or any essays to write. I don't quite know what to do with myself. So...I took a quiz:
<td align="center">Fun is most important in your life.
Having a high focus on fun indicates that you value your own enjoyment over anything else. And there is nothing wrong with that. Your motto is we're here for a good time - not a long time.

On Sunday, I'm planning to go shopping with Krissy - we're going to go to Old Navy, the Salvation Army store, the mall...and Panera (mmmm). It's been a while since I've had time to really go shopping, I'm excited :)
Yesterday night, a bunch of us went to the midnight showing of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. There were 6 of us, and only 5 actual seats in my car, so it's was an interesting ride there. They cut a lot out of the movie, but it was a really enjoyable film nonetheless. I ended up going to bed at 3:30, and then waking up at 8 for work. I was so tired earlier, so I had to take a nap in the afternoon.
Krissy and I went to see OK Go at the Blind Pig a few weeks ago. It was definitely one of the best concerts I've been too - their encore dance alone was worth the $10 admission. They were just incredible live, and Damian signed stuff and posed for picsafterwards. (Pics: You're So Damn Hot)
I can't wait to go home for Thanksgiving on Wednesday. I can't believe I've only gone home twice since September. It's gonna be so relaxing - some Tofurkey, watching Serendipity and maybe Love Actually, putting Christmas decorations up... | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |

| As you can see from the title, there is a lack of excitement in my life, hence the lack of lj posts. My new hobby is rock climbing - I've pretty much been going at least once a week. I'm really not that great even after a month and a half, but at least I've reached the top of the wall, albeit the super easy wall.
Death Cab for Cutie played at the Michigan Theater a few weeks ago, and I really wanted to go, but it was sold out. I happened to be walking to my car in the parking structure, which is like right next to the back door of the theater, and Nick Harmer was outside signing autographs. I wanted to stop and get his autograph, but I didn't have anything for him to sign on me :(
Krissy and I went to see The Honorary Title at the Blind Pig last week. Two of the opening bands, Nightmare of You and Waking Ashland, were really good - I ended up buying like 3 CDs, and have been playing them non-stop. In a week or two, we're going to go see Ok Go. I'm really looking forward to that show, especially the dancing. It's gonna be awesome!
I'm really excited about Halloween this year. We're going out Friday and Saturday :) I've never dressed up for Halloween since I started college. I brought my old TInkerbell costume from home, but I don't know what happened to it - it's so much shorter than I remember. I bought tights to wear with it, but I don't feel like doing the typical 'slutty girl costume'. So, I ran over to Salvation Army this evening to see if I could find some things to dress up as Velma from Scooby-Doo. I found some great stuff, and even got a brown bob wig. Even Tricia agrees that it's a cute costume. | comments: Leave a comment |
| Feeling a little sick and congested. Friday was great - Tricia, Noelle, and I went to Planet Rock, where the Michigan Climbing Club was having a $10 rock climbing night to try to recruit new members. I've never gone rock climbing beore, but I've always wanted to try it. At first, I was really freaking out because of my fear of heights, and I couldn't get more than halfway up the wall. By the end of the night, though, I actually climbed to the top of the 50 foot wall. It was so much fun, and we ended up joining the club.
Afterwards, we all went over to University Towers, where Kim and Noelle's neighbors were having an apartment party. There was some pink "jungle juice", and after a while, I couldn't feel my lips - that's pretty much what I remember from the party.
click for pictures: big rocks and pink stuff>
On Saturday I was pretty lazy and sick, so not much was accomplished. I had a PROVIDES Publicity meeting for a couple hours, then came back to the apartment and kinda relaxed for the rest of the night. We won the game against State, which was a surprise to most people, I think.
I'm currently waiting for my sister to finish her Orgo study group, so that she can come over, and we can watch some of the new Degrassi episodes. That's the highlight of my day; it's that kind of weekend.
Ugh, now my eyes are watering and I keep sneezing as I'm trying to eat my soup. I hate being sick. | comments: Leave a comment |

| This weekend kinda blows. I've got a lot of homework, but don't really have any motivation to do any of it. Tuesday is the first Molecular Bio exam, and then I've got two German papers due Monday and Tuesday. Today, I've pretty much been studying/writing all day. I haven't left the apartment all day; I never even changed out of my pyjamas, which is sad.
Friday night was really fun, pretty much the only fun I've had all weekend. Tricia and I went to the Tally Hall concert at the Blind Pig. I'd never been there before, and was surprised at how tiny it was. Tally Hall was really good, even though I didn't know many of their songs, I really enjoyed the concert. Also, I just found out that The Honorary Title and Ok Go are playing at the Blind Pig in October and November, so that gives me something to look forward to. I seriously can't wait!
Saturday afternoon I took a break and went to the gym. I haven't exercised at all over the summer, and Tricia convinced me to go on the treadmill for the first time again in like 6 mpnths. It was really sad - I only lasted 10 mins, and had to take a break after 5. Hopefully, after my exam and papers are due on Tuesday, I'll have time to go to the gym and try to get back in shape again. | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |

| I love our new apartment. Even though the rent is kinda high, the location is great and it's clean and so cute! I keep wanting to buy stuff to fill it at Urban Outfitters, except I've been spending too much money already. It feels so good to be back on campus, and the past couple of days were so relaxing - eating sushi, moving in, wandering around and shopping. An American Appearal store just opened up around the corner from my apartment, and they're giving 15% off to anyone who has a student ID, so I was excited.
Classes started today, and surprisingly, they weren't all bad. I actually kinda enjoyed Molecular Biology lecture. I also had my sociology/german 212 class, which I'm only taking to fulfill the annoying humanities distribution requirement, and I swear, I wanted to stab myself with my pen by the end of the hour. Even though it was cross-listed in the German department and it's called 'Sports and Society', it didn't really seem to have much to do with German at all. The class was like 80% guys, and not even really hot guys. So, I just switched into Tricia's American Culture class, called 'Love and Sex on the Beach'. It sounds so much more interesting, and I've had the professor before. | comments: Leave a comment |
| I get to go home in 3 days! I'm excited, as if you can't tell. Germany's great and all, but I miss my own bed and room. And my laptop. And air conditioning. I think I might try to start packing tonight. I've bought so much while I've been here (clothes, books, souvenirs), I'm not sure it's all gonna fit in my suitcase. Last week, I even bought a travel duffel bag, but even then, I'm still worried. We'll see. If stuff doesn't fit, I'm shipping it back.
Last Monday was fun. I skipped class and took the train to Stuttgart for the day to go to the Rilo Kiley concert. I got there ridiculously early, cuz I didn't know if there'd be people lining up to get into the club. Apparently they don't do that here or something, cuz people didn't even really start showing up til like 5 mins before they started letting people in. I just kinda shopped around for a few hours.
The concert was really good, but it didn't seem like many people there even knew who the band was...it was kinda weird. No one was taking pictures either. I stuck around afterwards and got to meet everyone except Jenny. I'm not sure where she was. It was really neat, I got them to sign my liner notes for The Execution of All Things.
While I was outside waiting for them to come out, this really sketchy guy kept trying to hit on me. He's like, 'Wanna go to a disco? Wanna go get a drink?' (in German). And I was like 'Uh, no thanks'. But he kept talking to me, until I was like 'I gotta go catch my train'. On the upside, I didn't have any problems having a conversation in German.
When I leave on Thursday morning, I'll be taking a train to the Frankfurt airport, but I've got to switch trains on the way. I'll have my huge suitcase, a duffel bag, my backpack, and my purse with me, so I'm worried about missing the train if my previous train is late. If I'm not home on Thursday afternoon, that'll be why. | comments: Leave a comment |
| I went to London for the break, and spent wayyy too much money. When I got back, I checked my bank account online, and had a mild heart attack, so it looks like I'm not going to Berlin for the weekend to see the Rilo Kiley concert.
Overall, London was fun, but exhausting. It took like 9 hours to get there by train. Since I was only there from Friday til Monday, I tried to cram in as much as a could in like 3 days. The weather sucked - I brought my sunscreen, but didn't use it at all. On Saturday, I went to Hyde Park, to try to get into the Live 8 Concert, but I just ended up hanging out outside the park, because you needed a ticket to get in. There were so many people there, just like chilling outside and listening to the music. It was really cool, because you could actually hear the bands from outside the park, and they had a big screen TV set up that was showing the television broadcast. There were so many police officers there, and some people were attmepting to jump the fence.
I also went to Portobello Road Market in Notting Hill. There were all these really cool vintage and antique shops, and used CD and bookstores. I was only there for about 2 hours, but I wish I'd had more time to look. I ended up buying the British editions of the Harry Potter books really cheap.
The one store that I was excited to go to was the Paul Frank store in Covent Garden. The area was really nice, a lot of cute boutiques. However, because of the exchange rate, everything was like twice as much as it would've been back home. I ended up getting one shirt, but only because it was half-off.
I met my new roomate when I got back to Freiburg. She's from Madrid, and can't really speak English or German, so it's been pretty quiet in the room. | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |
| We went to München for the weekend. It took about 4 and a half hours by train, so that wasn't really fun, especially since we took an EC train for most of the trip, which really aren't as comfprtable or nice as ICE trains. We got there at noon on Saturday, and then went down Kaufingerstrasse, which is the main shopping/tourist street. We saw the Frauenkriche, Marienplatz, St. Josephskirche, and the Hofbräuhaus. The streets were so crowded with people, it was ridiculous.
The youth hostel was actually better than I thought it'd be. It was relatively clean, and the four other people in our room were really nice. Plus, breakfast was included, so it was a good deal for only like €22.
The next morning, we did a guided tour of Dachau that lasted about four and a half hours. The camp was much bigger and sparser than I imagined it. Most of the buildings were destroyed when the camp was liberated, so only a few restored buildings, along with original foundations were there. We did an English tour, and our tour guide was this hot Australian guy. In our tour group, there was also this cute German guy who looked just like Ewan McGregor. It was very amusing.
After Dachau, we went back to München, where we ate lunch at the Hofbräuhaus. That place is so touristy, it's hilarious. While we were eating there, random tourist groups would come in and just take pictures of the inside of the restaurant. They sell beer by the liter, and some guys at the table near us must've had like 3 liters each, cuz the waiter kept bringing them liter mugs of beer, right after another.
Before our train back, we headed up to the Englisher Garten, which were really beautiful. The Isar river goes through it, and at this one point, where the water comes out from under a bridge, there are some small waves. A huge group of guys were attempting to surf, and it was just so funny - German guys surfing in a park.
It's been extremely hot here recently, like at least 85 degrees. I'm like sweating in a strappy tank top, and then I'll see a random German guy in a long sleeved tee. This morning I went to H&M on a major shopping trip. I decided to gett all my shopping urges out of my system at once, so I spent two hours at the store this morning. | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |

| It’s been aaaages since I last updated my LJ (okay, only like a month), but if you had to go from the high-speed internet of the dorms to using dial-up at home, you’d be unwilling to go on the internet for more than 5 minutes too. Since school ended, I’ve pretty much been reading a lot (non-scholarly books such as Chloe Does Yale, of course), attempting to pack for Germany, catching up on all the movies I haven’t seen, and sleeping. After I got home, I had so many boxes of stuff, it was ridiculous. I tried to fit all my clothes into my closet and dresser, and of course, it didn’t fit. Even after weeding clothes out of my wardrobe (for some reason, I still had clothing from 6th grade in there), I still have a box of clothing just sitting in the corner of room because it won’t fit anywhere else. I decided to stop buying clothes until the fall, and it’s sorta been working. Sort of.
Last Wednesday Kristen and I went to the Rilo Kiley concert. They were playing St. Andrew’s, which is my favorite concert venue. It’s relatively small venue, and even if you’re halfway to the door, you can get a pretty good view of the band. Being the freak I am, I convinced my sister that we should drive down there 2 hours before doors opened so that we could stand in line and be right up front for the concert. I thought there’d be other people in line already, but we ended up being the second people in line. And we sat in the car for a half hour because my sister thought we were ridiculously early. Needless to say, we were able to get right in front of the stage, right up against the barriers. For once, I actually got good concert pictures. Since doors were at 7, I figured we’d be out of there by 11, and then we could stick around to meet the band. That didn’t happen. The first opening act, The Brunettes, were actually really good. Their music was kinda cutesy, and laid-back, but I really enjoyed them. They used instruments you wouldn’t normally expect a band to use, like a clarinet, a trumpet, and finger cymbals that looked like the Fischer Price ones I used to have when I was younger. After they finished, these older guys came on stage and started to set up. I thought they were roadies setting up Rilo Kiley’s stuff, but it turns out that they were the next opening act, Neva Dinova. By that time, I was kinda cranky because I was coughing up a lung and having trouble breathing due to the fact that there were so many people smoking. It didn’t help that everyone in Neva Dinova was smoking, too, as they were playing. The lead singer set his cigarette down on his guitar pedal while he sang, and I was just waiting for it to ignite one of the wires that were touching it. The end of their set was pretty good, though. Blake from Rilo Kiley came out and sat right in front of us, on the other side of the barrier, to watch the end of their set. Since it was their last night opening for them, they asked him to come up on stage and play harmonica on one of their songs. Then they brought up the rest of Rilo Kiley along with Morgan Nagler to sing back up on their last song. Finally, Rilo Kiley started playing at 10:30. I really loved the setlist - they played a good number of songs off of The Execution of All Things, even though it’s not their newest album. Then, for the encore, they played ‘85’, which is my favorite song of The Initial Friend EP. The one thing that surprised me, though, was that not that many people around us seemed to know the lyrics to their songs, except for the two singles off of their current album. There seemed to be a lot of younger (like under 16) kids there, which I thought was kinda weird. The show ended at around midnight, definitely the lastest concert I’ve ever been to, so we couldn’t stay afterwards, since my sister had school the next morning. I was pretty disappointed because I really wanted to meet the band, especially Jenny and Blake.
I just realized yesterday that I’m leaving for Germany in less than two weeks. I’m kinda freaking out already. I took the online placement test a couple of weeks ago, but I’m really worried that I won’t place into the right level, and then I’ll have to beg them to put me in a higher level. I’m also really worried about actually getting to the Institute. From the airport, I have to take a two hour train ride, and then walk to the Institute, and with my flakiness, I seriously hope I make it there, and don’t end up in some random city. Ugh, I’m starting to freak out just thinking about all the things I have to do.
